About Me

I'm an education groupie

Hi! I'm Jessie. I'm a TESOL-certified, college-level ESL instructor who specialises in improving student ability in oral comprehension and production. I've always had an unmistakable interest in learning other languages, and I really enjoy sharing my passion for languages in a formal capacity. I'm also a second language learner myself, having spent the last two years learning french while living in Quebec, Canada. I'm also currently working on my MA Communication degree, in order to further my career in teaching communication, another passion of mine.

WORK EXPERIENCE

EnglISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR

GREAT PLAINS COLLEGE

Responsible for delivery of a self-paced distance language training program for eligible immigrants to Canada who are unable to attend classes in person. I deliver weekly one-on-one instructional sessions online, as well as monitor and facilitate students’ independent study.

COMMUNICATION INSTRUCTOR

NEW BRUNSWICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Taught and prepared content for several for-credit communication courses, such as Essential Communication Skills, Essential Employment Skills, and Technical Writing and Research to students in various trades programs, such as machining, welding, and steel fabrication.

Here I worked with students whose Canadian Language Benchmark levels range from 1-8 in a blended learning format, according to the Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) model. As many students are new to Canada, I also serve as a cultural link, by exposing them to various aspects of the Canadian cultural iceberg that they may be unfamiliar with.

Developed a professional, caring, and respectful relationship with members of the community to foster excitement about the then upcoming Canada Games. Assisted with the planning and execution of various events in and around Winnipeg to promote the Games. Additionally, I did some graphic design work to complement what had been done within existing frameworks.​
